At Legacy, we believe that true leadership begins with a heart surrendered to Christ. Our teachers are more than educators—they are mentors, committed to walking alongside students in faith, wisdom, and character formation. With a passion for discipleship, they strive to cultivate a learning environment where students are challenged, encouraged, and equipped to lead lives of purpose, service, and unwavering faith.
Judah Weinhardt holds a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Bluffton University and serves as the Director of Education at Legacy Bible Institute and Upward Bound Youth, Legacy’s parent organization. Judah got involved with Upward Bound Youth all the way back into his teenage years, first as a volunteer and later as an employee, helping to disciple and equip young believers both inside and outside the church. Instrumental in Legacy’s founding in 2011, Judah has been heavily involved in teaching and overseeing the curriculum since its beginning. He currently teaches Gospels Survey, Spiritual Disciplines, Gospel Fluency, and various other topical classes. In addition to his position at Legacy, Judah currently serves and preaches as a minister in his local church.
Judah came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 16, and has since had a passion for pursuing God’s mission and purpose in his life. He and his wife, Ana Marija, share a love for music and often use their gifts to encourage their community. Now, as new parents, they are enjoying the adventure of raising their son while continuing to serve. Judah has a deep passion for theological education and biblical literacy, equipping students to love and live God’s Word. When not teaching, he enjoys traveling, exploring God’s creation, and sharing life with those around him.
Dan Rickett holds a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Durham University and serves as a Bible teacher and student mentor at Legacy Bible Institute, teaching Old Testament Survey, Bible Study Methods, and various other topics. Dan loves teaching, discipling, and building relationships with students, seeking to come alongside the church to help equip them to lead and serve within the wider context of God's mission of restoration. Before coming to Legacy, Dan spent the previous 15 years teaching high school, undergraduate, and graduate courses both in the classroom and online. He has taught courses in Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, Hebrew, Greek, World Religions, and Discipleship/Missions. Prior to his work in the academy, he spent several years in pastoral ministry working with youth and adults.
Dan came to Christ as a high school senior through the student ministry at his local church. His life verse, Colossians 1:13-14, reminds him of the redemption found in Christ. Outside of teaching, he enjoys spending time with his wife, LaChelle, and their four children, reading, playing games, taking nature walks, and following the Houston Astros.
Thad Lumsden has faithfully served as a volunteer teacher at Legacy Bible Institute since its inception in 2011. He currently teaches New Testament Survey, where he loves encouraging students towards meaningful observations, deep questions, and lively discussion about the biblical texts. His passion is helping students not only understand the biblical text but also apply it to their lives in a way that strengthens their faith and discipleship.
In addition to his volunteer role at Legacy, Thad serves as the Executive Director of the Apostolic Christian Church Foundation and has spent many years preaching and ministering in his local church. He also chairs his denomination’s missions board, which has allowed him to travel on various mission trips. With a gifted singing voice, he values participating in traveling singing groups that bring encouragement to churches and communities. Thad and his wife, Betty, have two grown sons and enjoy working on home renovation projects together in their spare time.
Stephanie McCoy holds a B.A. from Bluffton University and an M.A. from Ohio University. Stephanie is passionate about stories—both the ones we read and the ones we live—and she loves helping students see how God’s redemption is woven into every part of life. From her youth, she has been involved with Upward Bound Youth since its beginning, and now as the Assistant Executive Director of UBY, she also helps facilitate the Open Forum classes at Legacy Bible Institute. With a background in high school English education, she brings a love for literature, deep thinking, and discipleship into the classroom.
Stephanie committed her life to Christ during her teenage years and grew up in a ministry-centered home, which shaped her heart for serving others. She and her husband, Cole, along with their two daughters, are actively involved in Upward Bound Youth, making it a family ministry. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, flower arranging, and curling up with a good book.
Stephen Weinhardt is a graduate of Legacy Bible Institute and now serves as the Student Life & Alumni Coordinator. His roles include overseeing communications and outreach, as well as serving as the on-site Resident Advisor for male students. Having personally experienced the transformative impact of Legacy, Stephen is passionate about walking alongside students as they grow in their faith and prepare for a life of service.
Raised in a Christian home, Stephen always believed in God, but it wasn’t until years of wrestling with full surrender that he fully gave his life to Christ. Since then, he has been called to ministry, leading him to serve at Legacy. His life verse, Romans 8:18, reminds him that present struggles are nothing compared to the future glory God has in store. In his free time, Stephen enjoys board games, disc golf, and playing guitar and mandolin.
