1. Planning for Your Time Away
Spiritual & Emotional Preparation
- Pray for guidance and prepare your heart for this journey.
- Spend time in Scripture and reflect on your purpose for attending.
- Talk with
family, mentors, and church leaders about your commitment.
Financial Planning
- If not receiving a scholarship, budget for
tuition & books
- Budget for
travel expenses to and from Legacy.
- Plan for
personal expenses during the semester.
Communication & Family Considerations
- Inform
family and friends of your schedule and limited availability.
- Arrange
regular check-ins with loved ones.
- Set up a
mailing address for important documents or packages.
Health & Well-being
- Schedule any necessary
medical check-ups before arrival.
- Ensure you have any required
vaccinations or prescriptions.
Establish a
self-care routine for physical and mental well-being.
2. What to Bring
While a
teachable spirit, a hunger for God’s Word, and a servant’s heart are most important, here are the essentials you'll need.
Storage space is limited, so pack wisely!
Necessary Items
- A Study Bible (We can help you select one if needed.)
- Toiletries (Dental care, hygiene, deodorant, shaving products, necessary medications)
- Health Insurance (Contact us if you don’t have coverage.)
- Shoes:
- Comfortable walking/athletic shoes
- Waterproof or water-resistant shoes
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Work shoes/boots for outdoor activities
- Clothing (2-4 weeks' worth):
- Warm and cool-weather clothes (Ohio weather fluctuates.)
- Extreme-weather gear – heavy winter jacket, windbreaker, hat, gloves
- A
set of dress clothes (no suit required)
- A belt
- Backpack, satchel, or large handbag
If Possible:
- Personal vehicle (plus money for gas)
- Laptop (for learning assignments only)
- Personal journals, notebooks, and writing utensils
If Desired:
- God-honoring music for study and worship
- Books for spiritual growth

- Pets
- Alcohol, nicotine, tobacco, recreational drugs, or addictive substances
- Weapons (A pocket knife for practical use is allowed.)
- Fireworks or explosives
Digital Distractions:
- TVs, gaming computers, desktop computers
- Gaming consoles or electronic game devices
- Movies and TV series
- Video and computer games
- Video streaming subscriptions
- Social media or gaming apps that consume excessive time
- Music with profanity, vulgarity, or explicit content

4. Travel & Arrival Logistics
Before You Arrive:
- Confirm
transportation plans and estimated arrival time.
- Flying? Book your flight to
Cleveland (CLE) or Akron (CAK) and notify Legacy staff for pickup.
- Driving? Contact the
UBY Director of Operations with your ETA
at least 5-8 hours before arrival.
Upon Arrival:
- Follow
check-in procedures with the UBY Director of Operations.
- Unpack and
settle into your living space.
- Meet fellow students and join
orientation activities.

transition smoothly into life at Legacy. By bringing the
right essentials, leaving distractions behind, and planning ahead, you’ll be able to
fully engage in spiritual growth, learning, and community.
